Born in Hereford, England in 1969, British painter Jaz Auty has been creating since the moment he could hold a crayon. After earning his BA in Graphic Design from the London College of Printing, he spent seventeen years immersed in advertising, design, and photography. In his late thirties, he stepped away from a successful commercial career to return to his first love-painting-and has pursued it with unwavering dedication ever since.
Jaz’s work is defined by a bold, physical approach to paint. His use of colour is assertive and expressive, and his surfaces carry the energy of dripping lines, layered hues, and gestural marks. He allows each piece to materialise organically, trusting instinct over intention and embracing the immediacy of the moment. The result is a body of work that feels intuitive, fluid, and emotionally charged.
Drawing inspiration from his movement between London, Beirut, and Damascus, Jaz channels the contrasts and rhythms of these cities into his canvases. Each painting becomes a unique intersection of place, memory, and sensation-an invitation for viewers to step into a world shaped by imagination, light, and the artist’s own evolving inner landscape.
